Brazilian H1 May ethanol production down 10% on year

In Brazil, Reuters reports that UNICA data shows ethanol production was down 10% during the first half of May at 1.65 billion liters compared to the same period last year, a figure which includes corn ethanol production and not just sugarcane based. Sugar production was down more than 30% from 2021 at 1.67 million metric tons. Sugarcane crushing overall was down 17% compared to the year before at 34.37 million tons. High energy prices globally have mills continuing to focus on ethanol production, with more than 59% of cane crushed going towards ethanol production compared to 54% last year.
