In Germany, BayWa is moving forward with the sale of holdings and further reducing its debt. EGC takes over BayWa Energie Dienstleistungs GmbH (EDL) for a double-digit million EUR amount. The completion of the transaction is expected at the end of 2025 and is a further step in the transformation of BayWa towards the core business areas of agriculture, agricultural technology, building materials and mobility and heat.
BayWa AG, based in Munich, which specializes in the operation of biomass heating plants and local heating networks, was founded in 2009. The company operates heat generation plants at 52 locations, which are mainly operated by biomass (wood pellets and wood chips) and generate around 51,200 MWh of heat annually. BayWa EDL serves a broad customer base – in particular municipalities and public clients. The project locations are located mainly in Bavaria. BayWa EDL covers the entire value chain along the planning and design, operation and maintenance, as well as measurement, billing and material procurement.
With the acquisition of BayWa EDL, EGC is strengthening its presence in Bavaria and is thus represented in all major regions of Germany. At the same time, EGC is expanding its technology portfolio in the biomass sector, underlining its role as a one-stop shop for climate-friendly energy solutions. The complementary offer of BayWa EDL complements EGC’s previous focus areas in the area of heat pumps and photovoltaics. In particular, the strong anchoring of BayWa EDL in the municipal sector opens up new growth prospects and reference projects for EGC for other regions.
