BP aims to produce SAF in Australia by 2025

In Australia, Reuters reported that BP aims to start producing sustainable aviation fuel in Australia by 2025. The oil firm said that SAF production will be possible after converting its oil refinery near Perth to produce renewable fuels. BP’s Asia Pacific VP of low-carbon solutions, Lucy Nation, said that the SAF project will require the investment of hundreds of millions of dollars.

BP did not provide details regarding the potential production volumes but the executive said output would depend on demand as the plant would be able to switch day-to-day between producing sustainable aviation fuel and biodiesel.

“We’re lucky at Kwinana in that we’re able to reutilize some of the processing equipment, the utilities and we have tanks ready to go,” Reuters quoted Nation as saying. BP’s plant is located in Kwinana, in Western Australia.
