Toysal and CycleØ commission Spanish biomethane plant in Galicia

In Spain, Toysal and CycleØ have joined forces and announce the successful completion of an innovative project for the collection, management, and transportation of organic waste with the goal of generating biomethane. Using Toysal’s infrastructure and experience in waste collection and management, up to 22,000 tons of organic waste per year will be managed, and using CycleØ’s proprietary technology, the biogas will be purified to produce 45 GWh of biomethane per year, avoiding approximately 6,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Located in Porriño, Pontevedra (Galicia), the plant, called Ecogalia, is a joint project between both companies and aims to achieve a biogas production of 6.6 million nominal cubic meters per year (45 GWh) at full capacity. Using local waste, the plant will increase activity at the Porriño site, creating new jobs and optimizing waste treatment that will be integrated into the circular economy.

Biomethane will be injected directly into the gas distribution network, contributing to the decarbonization of activities that are difficult to abate and thus advancing the national goal of increasing biomethane production to 20 TWh/year by 2030.
