In India, BioEnergy Times reported that Singapore’s Tuas Power plans to operate its 133-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant entirely on biomass by 2028,
Tuas Power, which has a total generating capacity of 2,670 MW and supplies about 20% of Singapore’s electricity, said it is also exploring renewable energy projects and clean energy imports to further reduce its carbon footprint.
Located at the Tembusu Multi-Utilities Complex, the combined cycle plant currently runs on a 70:30 mix of coal and biomass, the report stated. It has gradually increased the use of imported wood pellets, palm kernel shells, and locally sourced wood chips in its operations, it added.
Tuas Power said it is working closely with more customers to expand long-term offtake agreements, ensuring the transition to full biomass remains commercially sustainable.
