In India, the ANI news agency reports Prime Minister Modi has inaugurated the world’s first ethanol plant that uses bamboo as feedstock at Numaligarh Refinery Ltd’s refinery unit in Assam, more than six years after he laid the foundation stone. In addition to ethanol, it also produces high-value industrial chemicals such as green furfural and green acetic acid, food-grade carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio-coal plus 25MW of green electricity. Although located in a region known for bamboo production, the PM said the government will support farmers to produce the crop and will also buy it.
